AREA

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

AMBULATORY CARE

(Fri mornings—9 am – 1 pm)

Welcomes patients coming in for surgery, directs to room and assists with non-clinical patient needs; assists with filing, putting information packets together; transports discharged patients.

CRITICAL CARE UNIT

(Sun or Thu mornings; Mon, Tue or Fri evenings — 5:30 – 9:30 pm)

Be part of the CCU team through answering phones, directing/assisting patients’ families, restocking supplies, assisting with paperwork duties such as assembling charts, copying, etc., running non-technical errands for department. Must be 18 or older.

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

(Tue, Wed or Fri evenings)

Assists with non-clinical patient needs, monitors patients in rooms and waiting area, preps rooms for next patient, restocks supply carts, etc. Plenty to do, and includes patient interaction. Morning shift is 9 am – 1 pm; afternoon shift is 2-6 pm; evening shift is 6-10 pm. Must be 18 years of age or older.

GIFT SHOP

Main Hospital Lobby
(Thu mornings; Fri evenings)

Handles customer sales using computer-style cash register; assists customers with selections; stocks merchandise. Funds generated from Gift Shop go directly to support community programs. Good opportunity for someone who loves working with people.

INFORMATION DESK

Main Hospital Lobby
(Sun evenings)

Great opportunity to help a variety of customers! Answers phones, uses computer to locate inpatients, assists visitors/callers with questions, and gives directions or escorts customers to various offices/services in the hospital. Good customer service and computer skills needed.

INFO DESK/GIFT SHOP

Women’s Pavilion
(Mon or Fri mornings; Wed, Thu or Fri afternoons)

Welcomes patients and visitors coming into Women’s Pavilion. Answers phone, locates patients, provides directions, etc. Handles gift shop sales using computer-style cash register; stocks merchandise. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, and stay focused on customer service needs whether busy or slow. Good opportunity for “people person” with computer skills.

NEWBORN INTENSIVE CARE

(Wed mornings; Wed afternoons; Sun evenings)

Answers intercom for controlled access unit, welcomes visitors, checks IDs, answers phones, assembles information packets, and stocks supplies. Prefer year-round volunteers. Must be 18 or older.

OB/GYN UNIT

(10 am – 2 pm shift on Mon, Wed or Thu)

Works with Obstetrics/Gynecology staff to assist patients with non-clinical needs; transports discharged patients, answers phones/intercom, obtains and restocks supplies, assembles packets of information, assists visitors, etc.

OUTPATIENT SURGERY CENTER

(Mon mornings)

Assists staff in Recovery Room area with cleaning and making beds, counting and sorting laundry, keeping blanket warmer filled, accompanying patient family members into consultation room, etc.

POST ANESTHESIA CARE UNIT (PACU)

(Tue mornings)

Works with PACU personnel to keep track of patients coming from surgery to PACU, assists with obtaining patient room assignments, and keeps surgery schedule and PACU Patient Log current and accurate.

Availability of positions subject to change based on current volunteer staffing. Volunteers should be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
