Women’s Maternity Services

Nurse Midwives at St. Mark's Hospital

Certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) that have clinical privileges to provide care for women in labor and delivery at St. Mark's Women's Pavilion. They each provide prenatal care in clinic offices, admit women in labor and assist with normal birth processes. Each nurse-midwife is linked by contract to a supportive Ob/Gyn physician that practices at St. Mark's Hospital.

Then CNM stays with the woman throughout labor in order to provide comfort measures and emotional support as well as to supervise and evaluate the progress of labor. The CNM supports the natural course of labor, but is also prepared to treat problems or consult with a physician should the course deviate from what is considered safe for mother and baby. The nurse-midwife is also licensed to provide pain relieving medications or anesthesia as appropriate for the needs of the mother.
