St. Mark's Hospital - February 12, 2017

The St. Mark’s Hospital picture archiving system, PACS, for radiology images is scheduled to be down on February 16, for 5-6 hours beginning at 2:00am for a software upgrade and server update. The upgrade will add new functionality and improve performance.

During the downtime, images will not be available on PACS viewers nor Epic. However, images may be viewed on the modality on which it was captured. Image reading reports generated prior to February 16 will remain viewable within Epic. The usual process for routing images to PACS for reading by a radiologist will be temporarily disrupted and official reports will be delayed until the system comes back up. Written reports on images generated during the downtime will appear in Epic after the downtime as they are read by our radiologists.

Cath lab cineradiography images will not be affected by the downtime, as they are not stored in PACS.

During the downtime, images may also be viewed through PowerShare (also known as "See My Radiology"), a cloud-based system that allows image viewing from any PC across institutions. Archived PACS images must be uploaded to PowerShare prior to the downtime, but images captured during the downtime can be uploaded to PowerShare as needed for viewing. If you want to request images be uploaded to PowerShare, please contact the radiology file room at (801) 268-7290 during regular working hours. After hours, please call (801) 268-7114 for assistance.

If you want personal access to PowerShare, please contact Erin Thompson, physician liaison to imaging services, at 801-293-6463 during regular weekday working hours. If you are new to PowerShare, test your logon access prior to the downtime.

Images on CD may also be viewed during the downtime. A radiologist will be available to read images emergently, with the ability to call in a back-up radiologist.

If you have questions about image availability in the operating room for procedures scheduled on the morning of February 16, please contact the operating room scheduling office at (801) 268-7275.

We apologize for this inconvenience while we upgrade our systems.
