Unless the practitioner orders otherwise, staff (nursing & respiratory care) will follow a new oxygen weaning protocol during hospitalization to prepare the patient for discharge. The goal is to wean oxygen as far as possible to minimum sustained oxygen saturation of 90%, unless the practitioner orders a different goal. The evaluation for weaning will occur at approximately 4-hour intervals around the clock.
