St. Mark's Hospital - November 01, 2017

In response to medical staff queries about recycling practices at St. Mark’s Hospital, our plant operations team shared the following:

  • SMH recycles about 23% of its waste stream or about 230 tons annually.
  • Current recycling includes batteries, cardboard, electronics, cooking and motor oil, paper and plastic.
  • SMH received the 2017 Practice Greenhealth – Partner for Change Award recognizing superior performance in environmental sustainability.
  • We are currently reevaluating our policy on small volume recycling (plastic bottles, etc.). Logistics and cost have been barriers to this in the past.
