Staying in a hotel can be a treat. After all, you don’t have to make your bed, cook or clean. That can be more than enough to keep you happy, but you may want to take a few steps to make your room a healthier retreat. Here are some tips from savvy travelers.
- Choose a newer hotel if you suffer from allergies. Older properties are more likely to harbor mold and dust.
- Stay in hotels with indoor rooms, which are safer and easier to keep clean.
- Ask the hotel if they have allergy-free rooms or if they offer protective mattress covers and pillows.
- Check for bedbugs by pulling the comforter away quickly. Look for brown bugs about the size of apple seeds.
Check mattress seams, pillows and covers, too.
- Bring antibacterial wipes to clean the TV remote, telephone and door handles.
- If breathing dry air is uncomfortable, seek hotels that offer humidifiers on request.
